Mr Bloom visits St James’!

Posted by Mrs Mahapatra on March 16, 2011

Imagine our excitement this morning with CBeebies’ very own Mr. Bloom popped in to see us! He first came in to our assembly where Mrs Bayley had to look after Baby Beverly while we got to meet a few of the other fruit and vegetables in his basket and then he went to meet all the children in Foundation Stage.

Mr Bloom was very nice and very kind to come in and see us. You can find his website with lots of games and other things to do here:

You will hopefully be able to see lots more pictures of his visit on the Foundation Stage blog very soon but until then, here he is!

Pie Corbett visits our blog!!!!

Posted by Mrs Mahapatra on March 14, 2011

News about the wonderful poetry that Y5 pupils have been creating has travelled fast! Not only have we had visitors from all over the world checking them out, but we have also had Pie Corbett himself coming to comment on the children’s work.

To say that we are all delighted is an understatement! It is a real honour to have the poet who inspired our writing, giving us his feedback.

Check out the poetry for yourself, either by looking at the Y5 section of this blog or by looking at the special book in our school library. All the Y5s also took home a special limited edition of the book that they might just let you have a look at if you ask nicely!

Posted by Mrs Mahapatra on March 14, 2011

Last week on March 8th the world celebrated International Women’s Day.

Here at St James we are finding out about famous Mancunian women and thinking about someone at home or at school we would like to give our very special St James’ Woman of the Week award to.

If you would like to nominate someone, you can do so in school using the school Assembly Board or you can do it online by posting a comment on this post. Remember to say why you have chosen them!

Shrove Tuesday

Posted by Mrs Mahapatra on March 9, 2011

This week at St James’ our theme is Shrove Tuesday which is what Christians call Pancake Day. Classes will be finding out the origins of Pancake day, learning about how it is celebrated around the world and of-course why we have those yummy pancakes!

We are also reading the story of when Jesus was in the desert. St Luke Chapter 4 vs 1-13. In this story, Jesus had to think hard to make good choices.

We are talking about when we have had to think hard about making a good choice and how we felt about it afterwards.

Lots of us are also eating lots and lots of pancakes with our families!

WELCOME TO THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR!

Posted by Mrs Mahapatra on September 15, 2010

Hello and welcome to the second year of the St James’ school blogsite!

We began work on the site in January 2010 and by the end of the first week we had already used it to teach children stuck at home because of the snow!

By the end of the last academic year in July, we were very excited to know that our site was being visited by people all around the world who had come to see all the writing, photos and videos that were being added by pupils and teachers.

This year we plan to get even more children involved in blogging and see even more of their work being shown off. We hope that you enjoy visiting our site and come back regularly to see the terrific work that we do in our school. It makes an enormous difference to know that people are looking and even better to know that they like what they see so please do not hesitate to leave us a comment.

Our Celebration Singing Assembly

Posted by Mrs Mahapatra on June 2, 2010

Last week we had a very special assembly. It was to celebrate all the fantastic singing that happens in our school. Every class joined in and sang songs together and in class groups. We were really well supported by lots of our families and friends and everyone had a lot of fun.

Foundation Stage wrote their own words to the Pirate Song and even showed us their fantastic pictures of pirate ships; Year 2 did an enthusiastic all singing, all dancing version of Let’s Twist Again and didn’t let problems with the backing track get in the way of their performance; Year 3 were brilliant as always and are clearly turning in to a Glee Club all of their own; Year 4 had everyone clapping along with their version of This Little Light of Mine; Year 5 certainly let us know that that there “aint no mountain high enough” and Year 6 that they could “see clearly now the rain had gone”!

We finished this special event with the whole school joining Thomas from Y3 whose fantastic voice started our current favourite song, I have a song to sing which lead many members of the audience to comment that they expected to see him on TV in years to come!

Thank you very much to everyone who sang and everyone who came to enjoy the singing. We had a brilliant time and can’t wait to do it again in the future.

I will put some pictures on the blog next week as soon as we get back from our half term holiday.

Enjoy half term everyone and stay safe!

Shavuot!

Posted by Mrs Mahapatra on May 18, 2010

This week at St James’ we are learning about Shavuot, the Jewish feast of Pentecost. Today some children decorated our assembly table with fruit. Mrs Boulter said that it reminded her of our Harvest Festival!

We are looking at the Ten Commandments that God gave to Moses and thinking about our school rules and why they are useful. We have been asking the question, “Why do we have school rules?” Perhaps you could leave us a suggestion.

Alternatively, can you think of an extra rule that would be useful in school? Leave a comment below with your ideas or if you are part of our school, leave them on the board in the hall!

St George’s Day

Posted by Mrs Mahapatra on April 20, 2010

On April 23rd, St James’ will be joining with the rest of England in celebrating St George’s Day.

We are doing some investigating to find out who exactly St George was and we need your help!

If you know anything about St George, please add it to our wall below -we will be talking about what we have found out in assembly on Friday. We would also be interested in the different ways that people celebrate the day so do tell us about that too.
